Introduction
The Faculty of Arts and Social Studies is a vibrant, dynamic and highly successful community which is currently training over 400 students to make a significant contribution to the cultural life of Wales and beyond.
The University recognises bilingual cultural development as a highly significant part of its mission and ethos. Academic staff ensure that undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are developed so that graduating students understand the importance of community and participatory Arts which celebrate our distinctive culture and identity within an international context.
The Faculty’s Schools of Creative Arts and Humanities, Theatre, Design and Production and Theatr Cerdd a’r Cyfryngau are all engaged in developing strong collaborative links with external organisations with in the Arts to ensure that students are given the best opportunities to develop their potential and 98% of Trinity graduates are either in jobs or further study within 6 months of graduating.
The Schools have developed many opportunities for part-time study or evening study. In particular, the School of Creative Arts and Humanities provides a range of community based modules at Level 4 in Art and Creative Writing which are offered at venues in the region. The MA in Creative Writing has proved to be a popular programme which attracts students from the UK as well as a number of international students – adding an excellent international dimension to their creative work. The MBA in Arts Management is one of the few postgraduate programmes of its kind in the UK which is reflected in by the number of Arts professionals who come to the University to study from great distances. The School of Theatre and Performance offers and MA Educational Drama which is aimed at qualified teachers who wish to update and increase their skills. Increased opportunities are provided for students, graduates and staff through the University’s Creative and Cultural Enterprise Centre. Y Llwyfan, was developed in association with the Welsh Assembly Government, Carmarthenshire County Council and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru to provide accommodation and networking opportunities for creative and cultural businesses as well as start-up companies.
In addition, the Faculty if responsible for the School of Sport, Health and Outdoor Education which offers an MA in Outdoor Education through its Centre for Outdoor Education Research. The Centre works closely with the European Institute for Outdoor Adventure Education and Experiential Learning and the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOLWales) to raise the profile of outdoor education in Wales. In addition, the School is responsible for the Centre for Healthy Lifestyles which offers advice and guidance on life changing strategies to improve individual’s health and wellbeing as well as human performance testing for athletes and teams.
